Starting June 2021, role-based and specialty certificates will expire after one year — not two. Certificates earned before June 2021 will stay valid for two years from the date they were earned and are eligible for the new renewal process.
Microsoft will retire certifications from time to time, however, and you may also find exam numbers evolve over time as Microsoft changes the curriculum.
The renewal window begins six months before your certificate expires. During this window before your certificate expires, you can take a free online assessment at Microsoft Learn and get the certificate extended by one additional year from the current expiration date.
