Despite our best efforts to avoid prejudice, we all have biases that can inflict a significant, negative impact in the workplace. Research has shown that more than 99% of the decisions we make and the actions we take are outside of conscious awareness. This course explores the concepts of both implicit and unconscious bias, and how our behaviors and interactions can become detrimental because of these biases.
During this course you will investigate the difference between stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. You will explore what unconscious bias is, particularly with respect to social and cultural causes, race and ethnicity, and gender. And you will consider cultural values and attitudes as you come to understand the different styles of communication.
You will also assess various approaches to management and how to work together across cultures. Plus, you will get tips on tackling language issues. Then finally in the last session, you will consider how to manage culture and diversity in your organization, and enjoy learning how you can tap into the power of cultural differences.
Overall, during this course, you will be immersed in scenarios and activities that will teach how to disrupt and suspend behaviors that are generated by bias. You will develop the insight and skills necessary to conduct engaging and considerate dialogue as you interact with peers from a diversity of cultures, personalities, and backgrounds.

Cultural Awareness and Unconscious Bias addresses the challenge that sometimes, despite our best efforts, humans cant help being judgmental. Biases, whether intentional or not, can inflict a significant, negative impact in the workplace. Research has shown that more than 99% of the decisions and actions taken are outside conscious awareness. Addressing biases in a business setting is especially important.
Cultural Awareness and Unconscious Bias explores implicit and unconscious bias. You will learn how behaviors and interactions between individuals can become detrimental because of these biases. Immersion in real-life scenarios and activities will teach learners how to disrupt and suspend bias-generated behaviors. The course provides the insight and skills necessary to engage a thoughtful dialogue between individuals. Learners will be able to use these learned talents to interact with peers from a diversity of cultures, personalities, and backgrounds.
Separate and distinct live workshops occur throughout the length of the course that will enforce and solidify the information you learn. You will benefit from learner and instructor interactions through various technologies, including whiteboard sessions, polling questions, workbook reviews, assessment reviews, and other activities.
The workshops will be conducted on specific dates and times and will not be repeated. Once you enroll in the course, you should prioritize these workshops on your calendar.
Cultural Awareness and Unconscious Bias focuses mainly on the concepts of unconscious bias and their impact in the workplace and life. During the course, you will learn about and see the impact the difference between stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination has on everyday life. By the end of the course, learners will be able to explain the differences between explicit and implicit bias types. You will be able to identify how actions, both physical and unintended, might affect and reflect these biases. Methods of adapting actions and behaviors that allow learners to recognize and interrupt discriminatory behavior are also discussed in this course. You will be given the soft skills to identify the work environments impact on productivity, morale, and creativity.
Cultural Awareness and Unconscious Bias is a four-week virtual online course; it is not a self-paced course. Even though the course is instructor-led, however, there will be coursework you will be required to complete on your own time. These additional exercises contribute and lead to the live, instructor-led workshop events where you will be able to interact with other learners.
