AZ-800: Administering Windows Server Hybrid Core Infrastructure is a four-day associate level course designed for IT professionals who administer core Windows Server workloads. It is particularly relevant to professionals using on-premises, hybrid, and cloud technologies. Extensive experience of working with Windows Server operating system, workloads, and server management tools is required.

During this course, you will learn how to implement identity services, Group Policy, and domain controllers in AD DS. You will build competency in integrating AD DS and Azure AD. You will learn how to install a new AD DS forest on an Azure VNet. You will develop skills for managing Windows Server and applying different methods to perform post-installation configuration of Windows Server. Plus, you will build your understanding of how to use Windows Admin Center in hybrid scenarios, connect hybrid machines to Azure from the Azure portal, use Azure Arc to manage devices, and restrict access using role-based access control (RBAC).

You will explore how to implement and configure Hyper-V virtualization in Windows Server and also how to orchestrate container workloads using a Kubernetes cluster. You will extend your knowledge of how to deploy and configure Windows Server on Azure VMs using ARM templates and IaaS VM networking. You will develop your skills in implementing and configuring Domain Name System (DNS), Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP), and IP Address Management (IPAM) solutions. Plus, you will strengthen your understanding of implementing storage solutions, Azure File Sync, and managing cloud tiering. Towards the end of the course, you will then learn how to migrate from Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) to Azure File Sync.

Overall, this course will prepare you for taking the AZ-800: Administering Windows Server Hybrid Core Infrastructure certification exam. To gain Microsoft Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate certification you should also take the AZ-801: Configuring Windows Server Hybrid Advanced Services exam. Entry for the exam is not included. However, you will get a clear overview of the Microsoft certification process, plus you will get tips and tricks, testing strategies, practice questions and useful information to help you pass the exam successfully.

This course comprises 10 purposely designed modules that take you on a carefully defined learning journey.

It is an instructor-led course which runs to a fixed schedule, with set start and finish dates. It is driven forward by your instructor and features live sessions that are aired at a set time. You will, however, have time to complete certain activities at your own pace outside of the live sessions.

Before attending this course, you must have:

  • Experience of managing a Windows Server operating system and Windows Server workloads in on-premises scenarios, including AD DS, DNS, DFS, Hyper-V, and File and Storage Services.
  • Experience of common Windows Server management tools (implied in the first prerequisite).
  • Basic knowledge of core Microsoft compute, storage, networking, and virtualization technologies (implied in the first prerequisite).
  • Experience and an understanding of core networking technologies such as IP addressing, name resolution, and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP)
  • Experience of working with, and an understanding of, Microsoft Hyper-V and basic server virtualization concepts.
  • Basic experience of implementing and managing IaaS services in Microsoft Azure.
  • Basic knowledge of Azure Active Directory.
  • Experience pf working hands-on with Windows client operating systems such as Windows 10 or Windows 11.
  • Basic experience of Windows PowerShell.
