Self-driving cars, facial recognition, web search, missile guidance, and tumour detection, these are all complex real-world problems being solved with artificial intelligence (AI). This program provides a broad introduction to this important subject, covering the foundational requirements and applications needed for careers associated with AI. You will also learn about the history of AI, and the opportunities available within AI development.
Additionally, you will be introduced to the many technologies you need for working with AI systems. You will be exposed to Python, the most widely used AI programming language. You will discover the basics of relational databases and algorithms. And you will learn about the concepts and tools used for data visualization. You will also gain skills in Jupyter Notebook, Python, MongoDB, SQL, NoSQL, and creating data, which will prepare you for tackling the hands-on labs provided in the program.
You will learn how to run your first Python program, and implement data structures, conditions, branching, looping, searching, and sorting in Python. You will discover how to set up a MongoDB cluster and work with relational databases. You will be introduced to working with various libraries of Python pandas, NumPy, and many more. And you will work with these Python libraries to visualize data in the form of charts and graphs.
Toward the end of the program, you will create a capstone project that you can use to showcase your knowledge in analyzing and visualizing data using a choice from the three different data sets provided. For individuals keen to take their first step in the amazing world of AI, this program is an ideal place to start.
This program comprises six purposely designed courses that take you on a carefully defined learning journey.
It is an instructor-led program which runs to a fixed schedule, with set start and finish dates. It is driven forward by your instructor and features live sessions that are aired at a set time. You will, however, have time to complete certain activities at your own pace outside of the live sessions, and you will be encouraged to stay connected with your learning community, mentors, and instructors through the program discussion space.
Courses also include videos, hands-on labs, exercises, and knowledge checks. Plus, you will complete a capstone project that you can use to showcase your knowledge in analyzing and visualizing data.
Enrollment in the program includes all six courses. You cannot enroll for the courses separately. Your PLU Certificate of Completion will be issued once you have successfully finished the entire program.
After completing this course, you will have:
We believe every learner is an individual and every course is an opportunity to build job-ready skills. Through our human-centered approach to learning, we will empower you to fulfil your professional and personal goals and enjoy career success.

Yes. Foundations of Artificial Intelligence Program sponsored by PLU is 100% online. It will not be necessary for you to attend any classes in person. With that said, therefore, you will need to have appropriate access to the internet for the live sessions and the required technology to be able to use the program materials. The materials for the program are in the form of articles, videos, and knowledge checks.
The great news is that this means you can access this program wherever you live in the world. But dont worry, you wont be alone. You will be actively encouraged to connect with others on the program through the discussion space. Plus, you will enjoy assisted mentoring and access to your instructors outside the live sessions too.
Foundations of Artificial Intelligence Program sponsored by PLU is an instructor-led program. This means live sessions are aired at pre-set times, and the whole program starts and finishes on set dates. Your assignments will also be due on set dates. However, you will have the opportunity to enjoy some self-paced work as well, for you are able to complete certain activities in your own time.
To give you an idea of how much time you should allocate to your learning, the program lasts for 9 weeks, and we estimate the you need to dedicate approximately 2 hours a week to your studies.
This program offers an excellent introduction to the world of artificial intelligence. It has been purposefully designed to cater to individuals who have never worked in the field, as well as those who have no specific previous experience in AI. However, we do recommend that learners have basic math and statistical knowledge, some basic computers skills, and also some basic Python programming experience before they start the program. This will help you greatly as you progress.
This program, sponsored by PLU, has been designed to run as an instructor-led program; though there is some self-paced work learners will need to do outside of the live classes. This means live sessions with an instructor take place at set times, and these live sessions will run to a pre-determined timetable. This is done in order to introduce topics in a way that is of most use to the learner, because skills and concepts that are required in a later course in the program are introduced early on. Thus, the order of the courses that you will see set out in your dashboard is the order that you will need to follow.
